You have probably seen a hoax that has been around which asks for user’s webmail password, claiming that it was sent by the administrator.

This caused us problems as users would send their data and spammers would use it to send out spam.
Here’s an example of part of such email:

Dear Email Account Owner,

This message is from webmail messaging center to all email account owners. We are currently upgrading our data base and e-mail account center. We are deleting all unused email account to create space for new accounts. o prevent your account from being deactivated you will have to update it. Please do not send us wrong password-email address ok.

CONFIRM YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT
Email Username :……………
Email Password :…………..

DO NOT inform your personal data in e-mails, these e-mails are hoaxes. Moreover, your webmail provider is very unlikely to request your username and password via email and will not demand that the user provide sensitive information via email or risk losing their account within a few days. Any unsolicited email that makes such a demand is likely to be fraudulent. In some variants of these scams, the scammers will include a link to a fake website that closely resembles the genuine webmail login page. You should treat as suspect any email that claims that you will lose your account if you do not provide private information via email or a website. Do not reply to such emails or click on any links that they may contain.
